Bonds of Blood : Chapter 3

That night, when Sora had laid down to try to sleep, he found himself staring at the ceiling, not tired in the slightest. His throat had begun to burn sometime earlier that day, and it caused the boy to toss and turn in his bed. Still, he had promised Riku that he would get some sleep, and he was determined to keep that promise.


Sora was so focused on trying to sleep, he didn’t notice the red wolf sitting just outside his window. The canine stood perfectly still, watching the sleeping boy intently. It wasn’t until midnight struck, that the wolf finally moved from its spot.


As swiftly and silently as the ever growing shadows, the beast slinked into the empty streets. The wolf traveled across town in seconds, every so often glancing around. It finally came to a stop in front of a cloaked figure who stood hidden in the shadows of an abandoned parking lot.


“Did you find him?” the male spoke in a quiet tone to the red wolf.


“Of course,” where the wolf had once stood, now a man with bright red hair grinned at the cloaked figure. “You really shouldn’t underestimate me, Roxas.”


“I wouldn’t have to if you would take this more seriously!” Roxas exclaimed, throwing off his cloak in anger. “If we get caught, we’ll-!” His words broke off as he shuddered away from one of the flickering streetlights.


“Roxas?” the other male looked worried.


“I’m fine,” Roxas snapped as he drew his cloak back on. He took a deep breath, and offered the other male a shaky smile. “After changing someone, vampires become more sensitive to all kinds of light, not just sunlight. You worry too much, Axel.”


“I thought I was the one not taking this seriously enough,” Axel frowned, crossing his arms in disapproval.


“We can argue about this some other time. How is he?”


“I don’t think he realizes what happened. He’s still going to school and trying to sleep at night. I doubt he’s even drunken anything.”


Roxas groaned loudly. “Are you serious?!”


“Dead serious,” Axel replied, looking pleased at his joke.


Taking no notice, Roxas began to pace back and forth as he thought hard. “You’ll have to make him realize what’s happening to him.”


“Why me?!”


“I did my part of this, now it’s your-!”


A distant howl caught both their attention, and both figures tensed. For a few minutes, nothing could be heard except for a lone wind blowing.


“I’ll handle this,” Axel promised Roxas as he drew the other male close. The two kissed briefly before going their separate ways back into the shadows.
